“My grandmother’s name was Be Boe. She often visited to help clean and cook after my mother was diagnosed with cancer when I was very young.
Each time she came, she made brownies: one tray for us kids, and one tray for Mom. Mom’s were strictly off limits, kept under lock and key in a closet. We’d quickly finish our rations and turn our sights on the reserves, but Be Boe reminded us that Mom was really sick and deserved to have her own brownies.
We found out years later that Mom’s brownies were made with marijuana. They helped the nausea brought on by the sickness and gave her back her appetite. I laugh every time I imagine that little 85-year-old woman wandering around our local grocer, trying to find someone who could help her buy a bag of weed.
In appreciation for all that she did, we started Beboe to carry on what she started, offering our customers that same warmth and love through our reverence for this life-changing ingredient.”
